Personally, I don’t have any issue with using AI. I feel like it is the next step in the never ending technology advancements I am living through. One of my friends (also a former teacher), made a good point in saying…if something makes life easier and it’s available, why not use it? I do agree with him…to a point. I do not think that AI should be used in place of original ideas or for cheating on things. For example, writing papers or completing assignments. I do think it is ok to use it for fitness, daily life tasks and to check on your work. For example, I have used it to create work out routines for myself based on my body scan data. I’ve used it to help create meal plans to stick to certain macros numbers. I’ve also run my email messages through AI to check for errors and tone. I am aware of the environmental effects of AI, but the truth is, me not using it is not going to put a dent into those effects.

Our assignment was to create a lesson using AI. The first thing I did was upload the assignment to ChatGPT. I then asked to create a digital citizenship lesson for a program for seniors at my public library. Here is the lesson I created with AI, Think Before You Click, Digital Citizenship for Older Adults. Overall, it is a good lesson…but it definitely has way too much going on. In reality, I could split this into the four different parts and create four different programs. Especially when working with seniors, you do not want to give them too much at once. I would just focus on part four – Being a Good Digital Citizen.

For fun, I typed in to ChatGPT to just focus on that one area and to create an hour long program lesson. It came up with a much more clean and focused lesson called Lesson Plan Be a Good Digital Citizen: Creating a Safer and Kinder Internet. I liked that this program is very hands-on and it focused on just the basics of digital citizenship. It seems like the more specific we are with AI, the better it serves us.

Now, I feel like I would have to run through this actual lesson with people to see if it would be effective and if it would even meet the time constraints that I would have. AI is great, but it isn’t always good at judging how much time things may take. Though I am not against using AI to help with things and come up with ideas, humans are most definitely needed to make changes to things that do not work.
